A Real-Life RPG For A Stag Do

Gaming September, 16, 2025

However some creative minds in the group joined together to build a real-life RPG that resembles Diablo pretty well. Well the artistry required a lot of strenuous efforts to make this dream come true. It is almost three and a half hours long but the work they had to put in was fascinating in itself. It included various programs and technology. They used cardboards for making props and scenery whereas some of them acted for the NPCs. One Reddit user DavidMReynolds had described “behind the scenes” of the whole simulacrum.

He said: “[The overlays] were tricky to get right. Ordinarily we’d just have someone doing them in real-time here – but with lockdown we had to find a way for them to be remotely controlled.” Well he created the graphics in After Effects. The graphics were then modified by another guy who wrote a node.js program. It was all based on the content of a twitch chat. They also created a list of short codes and also a twitch bot. This way if you type ‘hit20!’ the graphics server would in turn reduce the enemy’s hp down by 20. Therefore it plays the ‘critical hit’ animation.

He added: “One of the houses streaming to me over zoom was the combat arena. The guy there and his girlfriend were frantically changing costumes between fights: green body sprays for the goblin fight inflatable legs for the centaur huge gardening net thing for the gelatinous cube etc. The only pre-recorded bits were the riddle videos (eg mirror – but there were more) and the ‘summon stags’ clip.”

Besides there was a video uploaded on YouTube as well. Its caption described that the stag do was canceled which is why all of the friends decided to connect to each other sitting remotely and build a real-life RPG game. Well this wasn’t the thing that they had planned for fun but surely it is better to have a bit of amusement while staying far away from each other. At least it abides by the social-distancing rule.
