Are Superheroes Becoming Old News? Here Are The Poll Results.
The Marvel superhero movies have seen a dip in their fan base. The Morning Consult survey has come up with numbers to shed light on the emerging trend in the box office domain. The news has come up after the release of Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie has performed well below its potential at the box office.
Marvel stars cherish a unique space in the universe of stardom. They continue to beat in the hearts of superhero fans. Their action and legacy do not belong to any particular age. They have been adorning the scene for ages. From the era of comics to video games they have come a long way to entertain action lovers around. Not just that their fame has also brought in enough money for the franchise and Disney. Therefore they look at the Marvel ventures as investments with promised returns. However the faith in Marvel’s financial prowess is hitting a low. Superhero fans are gradually losing out their interest in power performances.
There was a time when Marvel fans used to hold on to their hearts for cherishing a Marvel punch on the screen. They would wait earnestly to have the franchise come up with a new plot and theme. Not just that they would also not mind being a part of the long queue outside theaters to grab their hard-earned tickets. Also one could not miss out on the hoopla that used to rock the newspapers even before their big and fancy release. However the age-old Marvel fandom is witnessing a dip. One can get on that with the Marvel movies performing below expectations.
The latest release of the much-talked Thor: Love and Thunder could not mint the expected penny. It failed to script its name as the blockbuster of the year. Not just that it also etched its name as the third-lowest-rated movie in Marvel’s history. It has also garnered only a 65% Rotten Tomatoes rating. That has brought the besets lurking around to the fore. Not just that the Morning Consult survey has also pulled out numbers to warrant that fact. According to the survey 36% of the respondents found Marvel movies entertaining. This figure stands down from 41% noticed last year.
Apart from that the share of the self-claimed Marvel fans has also fallen from 87% to 82%. That has highlighted the severing position of the Marvel movies at the box office. The Marvel franchise has come with the release of 29 movies since 2008. Three out of them are for 2022. Adding to that Marvel Studios President (Kevin Feige) has also tried to keep the Marvel momentum up. Taking on that note he has announced 10 movies in San Diego. Pressing the thrill meter two out of them are Avengers stars.
One can also deny the crucial position that Marvel movies hold in Disney’s spectrum. They go a long way in alluring subscriptions for the Disney+ streaming service.
However contrary to the ratings Thor: Love and Thunder has cemented its name as the sixth largest earner of 2022. It attained a decent standing just after a month of its release. Taking on that line one can also find Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness standing as the second highest earner at the box office this year. Not just that the joint venture by Disney and Sony: Spider-Man: No Way Home bagged the position of the highest earner at the box office last year.
The crumbling Marvel fan base needs a reckoning. Meanwhile Warner Bros. Discovery has dropped Batgirl from the list.
