Disney+ Reaches Five Year Subscriber Target Within Nine Months
The third quarter fiscal report of the Walt Disney Company had been disclosed and it said that Disney+ had a total of 57.5 million subscribers. They had set a target to achieve this goal within five years. However, they reached their aim in nine months only. Also, they saw an increase in 3 million subscribers since the beginning of May. However, Disney+ is far behind another popular streaming platform Netflix which has a total of 193 million paid subscribers. But Disney+ had still managed to be two spots ahead of Amazon Prime Video or Hulu.
Disney+ had provided its users with a number of options and services that also consists of ESPN+ as well as Hulu. Hulu has around 35.5 million subscribers while ESPN+ has almost 8.5 million subscribers. This was a threefold increase over the last year. Disney+ even has quiet a low cost subscription rate in comparison to other streaming platforms. Users can sign up to Disney+ in $6.99 per month or in $69.99 for a year. While the OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video both charge$12.99 per month.
Disney+ provides you with a wide variety of entertainment and genres that include classic Disney animated films and also many movies from Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. Also, it is the only streaming platform for the millions of Star Wars fans around the globe. It even had the Emmy nominated, the only live action series, The Mandalorian. And this summer, the Disney+ service was pushed up as it had premiered the stage recording of Lin – Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. These facilities and countless film options supported by Disney+ had attracted people to get a subscription for themselves.
Disney+’s five year subscription achievement was a ray of hope for the Walt Disney Company as the company’s report also suggested negative result. There was a total loss of 42% in the overall revenue from the last year. The company also saw a huge loss of 3.5 billion dollars as the theme parks were shut down due to the global pandemic of Covid-19. Although, if the pandemic continues for a very long time, Disney+ could reach its new five year plan of 60 million subscribers to 90 million subscribers by 2024. And it would not be a surprise if they reach their new goal even earlier.
