The inception of this case was in 1977 when 10 children informed their teacher about spotting of a flying saucer near trees during their lunch break. The teacher separated them and asked them to draw whatever they had seen. To her surprise the drawings were graphically similar. She handed over these drawings to Cheshire police and this case came to be known as “Close Encounters of a Playground Kind. Contemporarily in 2009 Dr. David Clarke of Sheffield Hallam University was working with the MoD and rediscovered these drawings.

Dr. Clarke used these drawings in documentation of a book called “UFO Drawings From The National Archives.” Teacher named Mrs. Hindmarsh was responsible for handing over these drawings by students who spotted something mysterious in a field 200 yards away at Broad Haven in West Wales all these years back. Clarke said He opened the file and saw various kinds of crayon drawings and wondered if they were credible. He felt that if the teacher felt it was serious enough to be mentioned then it might as well hold some accuracy to it. S Interestingly The sci-fi movie Extra-Terrestrial was released 5 years later. Dr. Clarke continues to explain how the cop who received the report first hand sent the report to air traffic control in Manchester to see if there was any spotting. The documented report of this case was forwarded to MoD UFO dept. ahead who thoroughly investigated the drawings. Everyone was amazed. Upton Priory School pupils weren’t the only ones who spotted flying saucers that year. Children in Broad Haven Pembrokeshire also saw a UFO parked up in a field.

Kids in Anglesey even spotted cigar shaped UFO while playing netball. The year was characterized by dramatic mentions of extraterrestrial events but there is not telling if they hold 100% accuracy because one cannot deny that this era was heavily influenced by new age science fiction movies like Star Wars Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Doctor Who on Saturday night television.
