Light Bulb That Glows When Couples Announce Their Break Ups Online
'Epicaricacy' means "Rejoicing at or deriving pleasure from the misfortunes of others". The case is quite similar here. Japanese youtuber Marina Fujiwara's latest invention is doing rounds around the internet after her video showcasing her 'break-up' bulb is going viral among the single community. The device is connected to your laptop and blinks whenever someone posts about their break-up on the internet.
The bulb looks ordinary at first but when it is connected to the internet through a bridge it gets notifications about the social media posts in which people have announced their break up.
According to her website she said that she hates Christmas and PDA from couples during the holiday season. So she decided to make this light bulb to remind herself that she is not the only single person out there.
According to her blog: "I really hate Christmas. It's not a light joke like 'Christmas or perish' but I really don't like it. I want to celebrate Christmas. But when you see a couple in the world going on a Christmas date and doing something like that I am attacked by a huge sense of loneliness."
Adding further she describes that she has a hobby of searching the words 'parting' or other related to it. Her hobby came after when she found an account created by some high school student made for announcing things like anniversaries and other special occasions. And whenever a couple breaks up they would announce by changing their icons to 'Parted'. Inspired by this Fujiwara created the light bulb which would blink whenever someone changes their status to parted or posted about something related to parting.
According to the demonstration video you can also adjust the color or brightness of the bulb using an IoT home appliance app.
She explains: "This is a popular IoT home appliance that allows you to adjust the brightness and color of the light bulb from your smartphone. Also if you connect to other apps and turn on the electricity when you go home the possibilities are endless. First of all connect a bridge that will become a hub to connect the light bulb to the internet. Set up is completed by simply connecting to a WiFi router at home with a LAN cable. Very easy."
The product is still in its development stages and is not available for purchasing yet. However it would be a quite nice gift to give to a fellow single friend.
