When the big choice is made between giving you a name that’s rare only for a few days and the one that would sound like an ancient anecdote after a while, you are not involved. We can only wish that our parents pick a good one that needs no alteration in the future.

One man had been in a tough spot with his moniker for a long time until he finally decided to make a change. His parents named him Donald in honor of his grandfather but that didn’t turn out so well for the guy. He admitted that it began with Donald Duck jokes during his school days and then, moved on to a political aspect.

He always chose his middle name, Jake, to introduce himself and stay on a safer side that carries no embarrassment. When he eloped with his girlfriend, he sensed it as a perfect opportunity to alter his identity legally (just the name, of course!).

He took her last name but also, changed his first and middle names. He had always been a fan of the Star Trek character, James Tiberius Kirk. So, he opted for Tiberius as his middle name and Jacob as his official first name.

He revealed that he first met his wife sci-fi convention and so, including a Star Trek character in his moniker made sense. Apparently, he had utterly disappointed someone after making this decision.

“The only one who isn’t completely in awe of my incredible new name is (understandably) my mom. She wanted me to just swap the names (Jacob Donald Lastname) so I still have my grandpa’s name somewhere in there,” he explained in the Reddit post.

“She’s annoyed I’m putting a joke name over a sentimental one and she’s very vocal about hating Tiberius and thinking it’s stupid and embarrassing.”

He wanted to know if he had jumped in haste on the wrong path. Many Reddit users commented and justified his action with their opinions. One wrote, “It is not a joke name. It is a lifestyle name and it is yours. None of anyone’s business, including the one who named you.”

“While your mom may be upset, it is not her who has to live with the name. If she wants the name around she should change her name,” another blurted out.

Other people didn’t want to be a part of this battle and considered both the teams to be right at their end.

One user expressed, “Names are the first gift you give your child. And your name was to honor your grandfather. That you would pick a joke name is kind of disrespectful. But… while it’s a little disrespectful, I think your mom’s reaction is out line as well.”
