Russell Crowe Says Joaquin Phoenix’s Gladiator Villain Is Cinema’s Best Villain
In an interview Crow talked about the upcoming movie in which he apprised that he had a lot of fun being on the sets. However it didn’t start with Russell Crowe simply accepting the script and getting started with the work. Besides he couldn’t even visualize it accurately as the script made him feel nothing to write home about. But after a short interaction with the director Derrick Borte he was convinced with the story and was ready to work for it.
Besides the conversation focused not only on the glory of the recent ones but also on those we saw in the previous decade. Crowe also commemorated the success of ‘The Nice Guy’ on Amazon. Then the entire talk centered on ‘Gladiator’ commemorating its beauty on its 20th anniversary. Crowe couldn’t make his mind on considering a sequel for Gladiator.
Even for the lead actor it was the best among all he has witnessed. He had never been so ebullient than he was for this astounding movie. Twenty years have passed by and there are still considerations to further take the story but we cannot Maximus to be alive who has already died. On the contrary there are still many who are not convinced of putting steps for the sequel. The simple reason is that it has grabbed an Academy-award which makes it a part of history.
Crowe believes that the process of film-making is enervating and challenging as well. You can see everything going south even if you had put up your impetus to make a good movie with a high budget several good actors and also a good script. With his further attempt to explain the beauty of Gladiator he also shed light on the flabbergasting performance of Joaquin Phoenix calling him ‘one of the best bad guys in cinema.’
The performances by Richard Harris Oliver Reed David Hemmings DjimonHounsou and Connie Nielsen were another strong pillar to make the movie an exquisite piece of history.
He added: “The seriousness of the actors as they would come into that world and what they wanted to discover and the questions they’d ask the director. That was probably one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in terms of the closeness of the cast and how we communicated and kept the conversations going.”
