Spacesuit With Gloves Could Control Drones On Moon and Mars
In the NASA Haughton-Mars Project (HMP) NASA is working on astronaut smart glove for the exploration of the Moon Mars and plan on using it beyond that. They have successfully field-tested their astronaut smart glove for their future expeditions. The prototype was successful and further advancements can be added to it successfully.
The prototype for the Human-machine interface allows the cosmonauts to operate the robotic assets wirelessly including drones with just simple hand gestures. One need not carry extra remote controls to control the drone the cosmonauts can operate and control them with the help of the glove they will be wearing.
Not only that but the National Aeronautics and Space Administration was also working on special spacesuits. They unveiled their new Artemis Generation spacesuits which are designed to keep the astronauts safe and comfortable on the surface of the moon. Every planet and star has a different composition and thus different spacesuits are required for every mission.
SETI Institution rightly pointed out that spacesuits will limit the dexterity and precision of the interstellar with which they perform tasks. In Addition to that they remain fundamentally cumbersome. According to Pascal Lee a planetary scientist in the SETI and the Mars Institution the solution to this cumbersome problem is the smart glove.
The spacesuits should be equipped with smart gloves to operate the drones and other things. Keeping this in mind the smart gloved technology developed by Ntention was further integrated into a concept by the Moons and Mars exploration and was jointly done by the Haughton-Mars Project and Pascal Lee.
Pascal Lee in his research further suggested that with the special spacesuits equipped with smart- glove technology the astronauts could easily control all the robotic assets on the mission with the proper understanding of the controls and practice. This will not only make their work easier but also make the operation on the Moon Mars and beyond that more effective and successful.
Ntention is a startup where the smart glove was developed and tested in HMP’s field in 2019. It is run by the students of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Moina Medboe Tamuly Ntention COO shared his views on the same and said “Our philosophy is to create technology that makes human-machine interfacing intuitive and seamless Now we are excited to see that our technology has potential applications in space exploration.”
The special spacesuit can be used for surveying sampling mapping scouting fetching inspecting etc. which will help the astronauts work effectively and efficiently in their operations.
