Student Created Biodegradable Plastic From Fish Akin And Algae
One day going around in a sustainable fishing company she was taken aback to see a big heap of industry’s waste materials. She leaned forward and wondered if she could use that waste in an effective manner. Then the red algae material hit her mind hard as many people had claimed to produce plastic with it before. So she thought to try out the idea of making biodegradable plastic with that stuff.
But it was not that easy for her. She managed to make sheets out of the material but they were not perfect. It would spring back into its original seaweed shape as she toiled to get a perfect one. Finally she gave up on that and looked around for a game-changer.
To her delight she got one in garbs of fish waste. It included mussel shells crustacean skeletons etc. She tried them out one after one and finally took up the fish skin. At last she achieved the feat and came up with a plastic made up of fish skin and red algae. She was ecstatic to declare that it was completely biodegradable.
After that it was time for her to christen her achievement. She named it as ‘Marinatex’. According to her it would banish the evil of plastic from our globe. The 23-year-old woman also shed some light on its efficacy. According to her it is stronger than the ordinary plastic. Not just that it does not lead to toxins and is safe to dump. What makes it cost-effective is the fact that it is made of ordinary waste materials.
The Twickenham (U.K.) resident was concerned to see the excessive and incoherent use of plastic. According to her it made no sense to her that we were using plastic for products that had a life-cycle of less than a day.
Taking on her project she claimed that waste material of one Atlantic Cod could provide us with 1400 Marinatex bags. The plastic can be used for packing foodstuffs etc. These facts point to the obscured potential of the thin plastic film. She also hoped her plastic to hit the market by the second half of 2020 if she found the right support from the firms.
