Super Mario Auctioned For $100,000 Becomes The Most Expensive Game Ever
There’s a huge market for unique and vintage items that fetch a huge amount of money. Considering this, it is not surprising that a copy of Super Mario Bros. was recently sold for $114,000. The sale broke the record previously held by another copy of Super Mario which was sold for $100,150 in February 2019. It is certainly not unusual considering some of the things that have been sold at auctions previously.
The reason why this game is so expensive isn’t just because it is rare and old. The game is the highest graded sealed Super Mario Bros. game cartridge ever put up for sale at an auction. It has a rating of 9.4 out of 10 and it even has the original cardboard handtag making it vintage. These credentials make this game a prized possession in the vintage games market.
Heritage Auction said: It was part of one of the short production runs of the game packaged in boxes with a cardboard handtag underneath the plastic. An indication that it was part of one of the first variants produced after Nintendo started using shrink-wrap to seal the games rather than stickers.

The winning bidder has chosen to remain anonymous, leaving the most expensive game ever in the hands of an unknown person. The game is certainly worth the price considering the credentials of the copy and the cult status Super Mario has achieved. It is to note that the game had been sealed for over 35 years now. It is such a disappointment we’ll never know about the proud owner of the most expensive game ever.
It wasn’t the only expensive game sold that day. At the same auction a Sega Pluto 02 console as sold for a whopping $84,000. It was never sold to the public before that. There were other things sold for surprising rates at the auction.
Super Mario was one of the most famous game series and media franchise created by Nintendo. It features the mascot Mario. The game was first released on 13 September 1985. The game follows the adventures of Mario in the Mushroom Kingdom.
We can say that the game was a catch even at that price. The owner will have the pleasure to quest in the mushroom kingdom and have fun if he decides to use the game.
