Adam Pally played the role of Bike Scout Trooper #2 in The Mandalorian’s eighth episode. While describing the traumatic moment when he had to punch the puppet form of Baby Yoda directly in the face at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour he slid out its jaw-dropping price.

Pally’s story about punching the puppet which he mentioned in the Television Critics Association’s event taking place in Pasadena was covered by the Entertainment Weekly in a recent article. Pally who is known for his comic roles in the television series like Happy Ending and The Mindy Project said that it was after he first punched Baby Yoda in the face that he was told by the showrunner Jon Favreau that the hero prop for the character which is the main puppet used to portray Baby Yoda on screen cost around $5 million. The cost of this one puppet is equal to five Shazam costumes ten nearly complete Dodo skeletons or 3333 Razr phones with bendable screens.

Pally told the reporters “I remember the first take that I did when I punched the Baby Yoda puppet. They called ‘Cut!’ and Jon who was watching on a monitor in his office he came down from his office and said “I just want to let you know that this is the hero Yoda and it costs like $5 million.”” Jon Favreau said that to Pally so that he kept this bit of information at the back of his head while acting. It was also because Pally fired off his subsequent straight rights into the adorable Force-user’s face. Pally also added that it made him so nervous that he missed three times in a row before nailing the action.

The legendary director Werner Herzog who play the role of the Client in the Disney+ series called the puppet hero Baby Yoda ‘a phenomenal technological achievement’ so the $5 million price should not come as a surprise. Such heavy cost is also because of the fact that the puppet requires two technicians to operate. One technician operates the eyes and the mouth while the other technician operates the puppet’s facial expressions. Herzog also added that he was smitten with the puppet and referred it to as ‘heartbreakingly beautiful’. His eyes would get filled with tears whenever he saw it.

It was also because of Herzog that the Baby Yoda puppet was used extensively throughout the first season of The Mandalorian. We should thank him for that. The production team behind the series were told by Herzog that they were cowards for considering a CGI backup plan in case the puppet didn’t work out well. Not only it would have been harsh to use a CGI version of Baby Yoda it would have been a relatively timid move and also a waste of some serious Calamari Flan.

But the question is what do the viewers think about the Child puppet’s cost and whether the hero prop is worth $5 Million?
